Sculptures “Mittlere Sechsfigurengruppe” and “Kopf” by Joannis Avramidis added to contemporary Collection

Two sculptures by greek-austrian Joannis Avramidis have been added to the contemporary collection which already holds one sculpture by the artist. The 1.08 meter high “Mittlere Sechsfigurengruppe” (1980) and the “Kopf” (1961/1970) are both overlay molds in bronze and one of an edition of six. Born 1922 in Batumi, Georgia, Avramidis gained international prominence as early as the 1950’s for his abstractions of the human form and was awarded professorships in Hamburg in 1967 and at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from 1966 to 1992. Amongst many others awards, Avramidis received the Grand Austrian State Prize for Visual Arts in 1973 and the Austrian Decoration for Science and Art in 1985.
